You can run the Windows application in
'offline' mode without connecting to the internet.
This is possible because a copy of your data
is held on your PC in addition to the primary
source on the data server. Each time you start
the Windows application in 'online' mode it
synchronises data from the server to your PC. As
you enter data throughout the day, your PC is kept in
line with the server. This results in an up to
date copy of your data always being available on
your PC.
The main reason the 'offline' system exists
is to allow users to carry on working when their
internet connection goes down.
How it works
Each time you log on you can elect to work
'online' or 'offline'. You can configure the
system to always show the 'offline' option at
startup. If the application fails to connect to
the data server the 'offline' option will
automatically be displayed.
If you choose to work 'offline'
then all the updates you make to your account
are stored in a transaction file on your PC.
When you subsequently log back on, in 'online'
mode, your updates are processed on the data server. An audit log is produced detailing each
transaction updated.
Offline Functionality
File Store is not currently available
'offline'. Also, most Account
Administration and Option settings cannot be
done 'offline'.
Apart from that the Offline 'look and feel'
is identical to the Online version.
How to make the 'offline' option
available at startup
-
Click the Tools menu and
select Options.
-
In the Options window select the
Offline tab.
-
